Here’s a cool new take on the old piggy bank. Shapped like a old-school bomb, when you’ve finally saved up what you need, the Superbitus Money Box let’s you break the bank exactly how you want to – by dropping the bomb! A nice added touch is that the bank comes with a white marker, so you can inscribe exactly what you’re saving for on the bank, and even track your progress.

This is the first Ikea product I’ve ever featured on the site. Most Ikea products are a little generic, but this one is different. It seems like a regular alarm clock, but it has a few key upgrades that I like. For once thing, the clock is wrapped in yellow rubber, so you can whack it pretty hard in the morning hitting the snooze button and not worry about damaging the clock (or your fist). Secondly, the Slabang doesn’t illuminate until you hit the snooze – no more overly bright numbers keeping you up at night. But the best part is the alarm – you can record up to seven seconds of whatever you want, and that’ll be your wakeup music! How cool is that!
These are kind of fun. You can add a little whimsy to your boring old backyard trees. But if I wasn’t expecting it, these would scare the beejeezus out of me. Especially if you rig up a sound system to make me think they were talking… OK, maybe it’s just me.
I’ll admit it – there are times when I’d really like to have a set of these. I’ll be in a restaurant, and there will be a couple across the room having a heated conversation, and I’d like to know what the big deal is. Let’s just say that I’m a people person, and leave it at that. Anyway, a set of the Rechargeable M7 Secret Spy Ear II would satisfy my desires (at least in this case). Supposedly you can even dial in on specific conversations. At $79.95 it’s a little expensive, but if it works it’d be great!
Just like the title reads, for just $4.95 you can get two tins of bacon-flavored mints. They apparently taste just like a slice of crisp bacon, with a hint of mint flavor. Someone else is going to have to review these – just the thought of them makes me a little queasy.
Want a good way to show off pictures of your cats (or kids) at work? The desktop Digital Photo Cube does the job pretty well. It stores up to 30 photos, and also has a “mood light” setting that lets you set the appropriate tone for your images. The one drawback is that the screen size is only 1 X 1 inches, and that’s pretty tiny. But it is a pretty fun litttle gadget.
This is one of those things that looks like a great idea. It’s simply a paper towel that’s been dehydrated and compressed down to a small cube. Add a few drops of water, and it becomes a large paper towel. Mom’s can throw a few of these in their purse, and it’s great for sudden spills or cleanups. You can keep a few in your car (or work bag, or backpack) for cleanups when regular rags aren’t available – the possibilities are almost endless.
The Open Edition Clock for sale at MoMAstore is exactly like a regular clock with and alarm, snooze function, and battery or A/C power. What makes it different (and cool) is that you can arrange or stack it any way you want – vertically, horizontally, in a cube, or whatever. It makes a great gift for the geek on your list!
Thieves generally know the best places to look for valuables, but you can probably fool 99.9% of the bad guys with this new safe. It looks just like a typical head of iceberg lettuce, but it has a bottom that snaps off to reveal a secret hiding place. I don’t think many thieves would think to check the produce shelf in your fridge!
